Leonard Vialpando
Broward County, Chief Innovation Officer
Leonard Vialpando, PE has been employed by Broward County since 1999, holding progressively responsible positions and currently serving as both the Environmental Protection and Growth Management Department deputy director and Chief Innovation Officer for Broward County. Leonard has 20 years of experience inbuilt, natural environment and consumer protection regulation, administration, and management. He has been a Florida Registered Professional Engineer since February 2002. Before moving to Broward County, Leonard worked for Woolpert, LLP as a water resources engineer. In his role as Chief Innovation Officer, Leonard is responsible for bridging data silos between departments and integrating technology with the built environment to provide replicable, reliable data to support/inform strategic decision-making. This includes fostering the use of business intelligence (data analytics) across the organization, identifying opportunities for interagency collaboration on innovation initiatives, applying technology to facilitate data-driven solutions, and implementation of an Innovation District to identify, test and ultimately standardize the implementation of smart sensors and adaptive technologies on County projects.
